There’s a wide range of Medium armor pieces for the Rangers, Fighters, and Clerics, and even those choices depend on what class or Feats are included in a character’s build.

1 Adamantine Scale Mail

Made At The Adamantine Forge

• Very Rare
• 16 AC +2 Dexterity
• Disadvantage on Stealth rolls

One of the rarest armor items in the game is the Adamantine Scale Mail, and it provides the wearer with the amazing Adamantine Backlash, which means that when a melee attack hits them, the attacker is sent Reeling for two turns, giving them a -1 to their attack rolls.

Of course, all good things come with a cost, and while wearing this, the player would have a disadvantage on Stealth rolls. A small price to pay. It can be found during The Adamantine Forge Quest, at Grymforge. The player would need the Scale Mail Mould and Mithral Ore to craft it.

2 Elven Chain

Purchased From Exxvikyap in Rivington General

• Rare
• 14 AC +2 Dexterity
• Grants +2 bonus to Initiative Rolls, Advantage on Dexterity saving throws
• The abilities of Elven Chain and Elven Agility

It’s officially medium armor, as anything “chain” normally would be, but thanks to the handy ability of Elven Chain, anyone who wears this armor is automatically proficient with it. That’s great for squishes like Wizards or Sorcerers who are limited to clothing and normally can’t wear armor at all.

The other feature, Elven Agility, gives the wearer Advantage on Dexterity saving throws and a +2 to Initiative rolls. This makes the Elven Chain ideal for Rogues or Bards because it can help with Sleight of Hand as much as ranged or melee fighting.

3 Sharpened Snare Cuirass

• Passive abilities: Exotic Material and Sharpened Snare

Some nice trinkets, weapons, and armor pieces are hidden behind certain storylines and locations with specific vendors that change location and stock depending on when the player meets them. One of these is Roah Moonglow, a notorious Zhentarium trader who appears in Moonrise Towers in Act 2.

This is an ideal chestpiece for a Ranger, and one of the very few in the game specific to this underrated class, although it’s also decent for a Druid. Exotic Material adds the character’s Dexterity Modifier to their AC, and Sharpened Snare gives the target a Disadvantage on their saving throws when resisting abilities that inflict the Restrained condition.

Roah is also a character in Act 3, but it’s more likely that she’ll end up on the wrong side of Tav’s adventuring party, depending on how things go with the rival Thieve’s Guild. Skip the Towers entirely, which is possible, and players might not be able to buy this medium armor piece.

4 The Oak Father’s Embrace

• 13 AC +2 Dexterity
• Order of Nature

In addition to the cool name, this medium armor has some unique features that can’t be found anywhere else in the game. It provides the wearer with Order Of Nature, which means that any Undead creatures that hit the player will receive 1d6 Radiant Damage, and Beasts deal an additional 1d6 Radiant damage.

It’s possible to find this armor piece early in Act 1, which is also an advantage. Other than the Dexterity bonus limit, it has practically no downside, which makes it a perfect addition to a Druid or Ranger.

5 Dark Justiciar Mail

The Dark Justiciar Mail, when worn, gives the Nightsinger’s Reply effect. While Obscured by shadow, the player deals 1d4 Necrotic damage to attackers that hit them in melee. It is an ideal option for players who want to look amazing while also being deadly and keeping to the shadows with a stealthy approach.

There are several clues in the ruins and If Shadowheart is in the party, she’ll comment on the bodies of Dark Justiciars littering the ground near the Grymforge Waypoint. The passage from the Shattered Sanctum might have been for Selune, but this part of the Underdark is all about Lady Shar.

6 Slippery Chain Shirt

• Ability to cast Aura of Protection

For animal-friendly gamers, the Slippery Chain Shirt can be just the thing they need. While wearing it, the player has the effect of Aura Of Protection, which means that they can heal a creature, which will automatically Disengage and won’t trigger Opportunity Attacks.

The Unwanted Masterwork Scalemail is one of the more durable medium pieces in the game. It gives the player an AC on the higher side and resistance to Fire damage, which is consistently useful throughout all three Acts, and it’s easily found in the inventory at The Forge of the Nine.

Exotic Material is the unique ability that makes this armor even better for character builds that rely on Dexterity, whether it’s for their fighting prowess or their Sleight of Hand skill. This allows the character to add their Dexterity modifier to their armor class, which is ideal for classes like Rangers or Fighters built for damage-dealing and melee fighting.

8 Chain Of Liberation

An Opulent Chest In The Selunite Outpost

• 13 AC +2 Dexterity
• Sprint

The Chain Of Liberation armor has the power to set even the most impatient players free. Once per turn, the wearer can reduce the duration of their Momentum by 1 turn to Sprint, thus giving the player the necessary boost they crave in their time of need.

9 Psionic Ward Armor

When it’s time to leave the Shadow-cursed Lands and go to the big city, there’s one more tough fight as the party is leaving Reithwin Town. If the player has the Qua’nith Psionic Detector or someone in the party passes a Perception check, it’s possible to at least see them coming.

One of the Gith assailants, Ch’r’ai Tska’an, drops the Psionic Ward Armor, which has the special Psionic Ward ability for Githyanki characters. The other benefits, which include restoring some hit points on a successful saving throw against a spell, apply to anyone.

10 The Jolty Vest

• Countershock

The Jolty Vest, as its name suggests, has a very interesting effect, called Countershock. When the wearer takes damage while having Lightning Charges, the attacker must succeed a Dexterity Saving Throw or become Shocked.

Quartermaster Talli has the grim responsibility of looting the bodies of the Harpers, or their fallen enemies, and she handles the task with grim efficiency. Somewhere in her travels, she’s picked up the Yuan-ti Scalemail, and it’s got a robust 15 AC along with some other features.

Exotic Material adds the character’s full Dexterity modifier to the character’s AC, and Ambusher gives players a +1 to Initiative rolls. The latter stacks if one’s build includes the Alert Feat or using a Potion of Vigilance.

12 Robust Chain Shirt

Return The Boots Of Speed, Loot It From Thrinn, Or Buy It From Roan

• Uncommon
• 13 AC +2 Dexterity
• includes the ability Piercing Counter

When everything else fails, the Robust Chain Shirt can give the player an essential advantage in the battle, with the Piercing Counter effect. When the wearer has 50% Hit Points or less and is damaged by a melee attack, the wearer deals 1d4 Piercing damage to the attacker.

It can be found as an optional reward at Grymforge. The player has to give the Boots Of Speed to Thrinn. If players want to, they could kill Thrinn and retrieve the boots. If this is too much hassle, it can be purchased by the Roah Moonglow Merchant, at Shattered Sanctum.
