Breath of the Wild: Where to Farm Energetic Rhino Beetles

Players would do well to pick up any materials they stumble upon in Breath of the Wild. Link can cook meals to replenish hearts and gain buffs, but he can also craft elixirs using monster parts and critters. However, catching insects and lizards can tricky if players aren’t fast enough.

The Energetic Rhino Beetle is one of the four beetles that Link can catch, but they’re quite rare. There are several areas that Link can farm them in Breath of the Wild. They’ll fly off if Link makes too much noise, so players will need to be stealthy and fast if they plan on adding them to their inventory.

Energetic Rhino Beetle Locations

Energetic Rhino Beetles can be found in West Necluda area and in the Rok Woods near Skull Lake. Players can even find some on the trees by the Great Fairy Fountain (Mija) near Tarrey Town. Although they’re bright yellow, these beetles can be hard to spot from far away.

Players should equip the Stealth Set or drink a Sneaky Elixir before hunting for Energetic Rhino Beetles. Since the beetles are stuck to trees, Link will have to get right up against the tree before he can snatch one. Players will also want to have Link crouch (press down on the left stick) to increase their stealth.

If players choose to look for the beetles in Rok Woods, they’ll want to be careful of the Octoroks. These monsters have great aim, and the rocks they shoot can make a lot of noise. The best thing to do is get rid of the Octoroks first before beetle hunting.

Check the woods on the other side of Tempest Gulch (north of Rok Woods). There’s a blue Hinox nearby, but if players are having a hard time finding beetles in Rok Woods, they may find one here instead.

Again, the best way to snag the Energetic Rhino Beetles is to wear armor that increases stealth or drink a Sneaky Elixir. If players are still having problems, then they take a picture of an Energetic Rhino Beetle with the Camera Rune. This will add it to the Hyrule Compendium. From there, players can track the Energetic Rhino Beetle by doing the following:

  1. Open the map with ().
  2. Press R-button twice to go to Hyrule Compendium.
  3. Find the Energetic Rhino Beetle picture under Creatures.
  4. Press Y-button to Target with sensor.

The Sheikah Sensor will glow green instead of blue. Just like with tracking Shrines, it will start beeping the closer Link gets to an Energetic Rhino Beetle. When players are done farming, they can toggle the Sensor off by going into the map with (), pressing Y-button, and then choose “Change Target” or “Shrine.”

Where to Use Energetic Rhino Beetles

Playes will need 15 Energetic Rhino Beetles in order to upgrade the Cap of the Wild, Tunic of the Wild, and the Trousers of the Wild. Fortunately, the iconic green tunic armor set is only available when Link has completed every Shrine in BotW. This means players have plenty of time to build up their Energetic Rhino Beetle collection until then.

Another way to use Energetic Rhino Beetles is to cook them with monster parts. This will create an Energizing Elixir, which will restore Link’s stamina. The more beetles used in the recipe, the stronger the effect of the elixir.

The final way to use Energetic Rhino Beetles is to trade them to Beedle. If Link has any beetle in his inventory, then Beedle will offer to trade it for a meal or an elixir. Since Energetic Rhino Beetles are so rare, it’s not recommended to do this. However, if players want a free elixir, then trade away.

It should be noted that Beedle will always inquire about the Energetic Rhino Beetle so long as Link has at least one on hand. Players may want to upgrade the green tunic set quickly if they find themselves growing increasingly annoyed with the traveling merchant.
