Destiny 2: Midnight Coup God Rolls
The Midnight Coup, a weapon from one of the first raids in Destiny 2, returns with a refreshed pool of perks that makes it more than just a competitive weapon. It’s one of the best primary weapons in the game for both PvE and PvP, and while it definitely competition on both fronts, this weapon is more than capable of carrying players through all sorts of content.
Midnight Coup is one of two Hand Cannons added as part of Destiny 2’s BRAVE arsenal of weapons. Fans of this weapon archetype or those who simply missed out on raiding the Leviathan have a lot to look forward to with this gun, and everyone who’s willing to put in the time and effort grinding Onslaught can easily get a god roll Midnight Coup after a few runs. Here are some good perk combos for this weapon as well as some important notes about it.

Any combination of the following perks can be considered god rolls for their respective game modes. However, given the Midnight Coup’s unique stat package, there are a few things that players need to consider before using the gun with the aforementioned rolls.
First, Midnight Coup only has a base range of 40, placing it within the lower end of the legendary Hand Cannon spectrum along with Waking Vigil. Both guns have a maximum effective range of around 29 meters, which is extremely low compared to other Hand Cannons. On the bright side, Midnight Coup’s Handling and Reload Speed stats are above average, and its base Aim Assist stat of 90 is among the highest in the game, beating Eyasluna. With the right perks, the revamped Midnight Coup can easily stand as one of the best Hand Cannons in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 Reveals Rewarding Changes Coming to Onslaught Mode
Bungie announces changes coming to Destiny 2’s popular Onslaught mode, making it more rewarding for those who stick it out for all 50 waves.
With that being said, players will want to compensate for Midnight Coup’s poor range by getting Full Bore with Accurized Rounds and a Range Mastwerwork. Full Bore will hurt the gun’s Stability — this should only really matter in PvP, however, so if you don’t like having your first few shots kick harder than normal, go with Smallbore or Hammer-Forged Rifling instead.
As for the third and fourth column traits, Explosive Payload is great for both PvE and PvP. It makes weapons deal 15% more damage to PvE combatants and causes heavy flinching when hitting enemy Guardians. It’s best paired with another damage perk like Rampage or Kinetic Tremors for PvE. Performance-wise, it is very reminiscent of the Fatebringer.
On the PvP side of things, Zen Moment is a top-tier perk for any primary weapon. It’ll help keep your shots steady by increasing Stability and reducing visual shaking when firing weapons. Opening Shot is a good perk to settle for as well, though players will lose its benefits if they fail to hit their first shot.
Moving Target further increases Midnight Coup’s dueling potential in Destiny 2’s PvP modes. With this perk, players will be able to max out their Aim Assist stat with a single Helmet targeting mod, opening up the weapon’s mod slot for something like Icarus Grip or even Backup Mag. The extra ADS movement speed is more than welcome as well.
One final note: the Midnight Coup has so many amazing perk combos that it’s hard to recommend only a handful. Here are a few more that you should consider hunting for:
- Shoot To Loot/Kinetic Tremors
- Attrition Orbs/Kinetic Tremors
- Firefly/One For All
- Explosive Payload/Desperate Measures
