Destiny 2's Pantheon will have exclusive rewards, including the 'Godslayer' title

The bits and bobs that Bungie has revealed about Destiny 2: The Final Shape are extremely exciting, but the free Into the Light mini-expansion is pretty great as well. In fact, Into the Light is due to be expanded upon very shortly with the boss-rush Pantheon mode, which looks phenomenal.

Pantheon is the name of Bungie’s surprise Raid boss takedown which pits a six-player fireteam against some of Destiny‘s most powerful creatures, deities, and concepts. As per Bungie’s latest TWID, Pantheon is due to launch on April 30 with a four-boss run, with each subsequent week delivering an additional boss encounter to the mix until we’ve got the full eight-fight roster available on May 21. Naturally, as completing the Pantheon is going to be a decent challenge, Bungie aims to load it up with an appropriate amount of rewards and special goodies, the snazziest of which is the all-new Godslayer title.

Indeed, Guardians hoping to spice up their profiles by becoming literal Godslayers will have a gargantuan task in front of them, and they’ll be rewarded for their efforts along the way. As the Pantheon is a kind-of-sort-of expansion of Destiny 2‘s dedicated Raids, it’s only appropriate that the mode’s rewards, too, mirror this fact. This time around, Bungie is happy to oblige.

According to the TWID, playing the Pantheon will allow players to rack up Adept Raid weapons, Deepsight versions of Raid weapons, and even an assortment of Exotic armaments. “Some rewards are weekly and others are linked to pursuits or Triumphs (like the four new emblems), but many will also depend on your performance,” says the blog. From the looks of it, Pantheon will adopt some elements of Destiny 2‘s Vanguard playlists, such as the rating system and the timers that come part-and-parcel as its key modifier: “We challenge you to complete each encounter before the bonus timer expires to get a Platinum score and the greatest rewards.”

Predictably, the community is already thrilled at the prospect of tackling the Pantheon on the highest difficulty modes:

It’s not all great news, mind. Some players have noticed that Bungie’s official roadmap specifically lists Pantheon as a time-limited mode:

Though the TWID doesn’t go out of its way to clarify whether this is a simple miscommunication or the factual plan for the mode, it wouldn’t be too strange to see Bungie sunsetting Pantheon mere weeks after its release, considering the studio’s track record. For what it’s worth, Destiny 2: Into The Light‘s Onslaught mode is bound to stick around permanently even after The Final Shape comes out, so I recommend keeping a pinch of salt at hand on whether the Destiny Content Vault will be munching away at Pantheon or not.
