Disney Acknowledges Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, Fans Go Wild

The Old Republic era of Star Wars just got a rare blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shoutout today, and fans can’t get over it. During the Star Wars Celebration, Disney officially confirmed that, after years of speculation, The Old Republic is an actual era in the official timeline, and that’s enough to get fans ecstatic.
However, don’t go expecting anything to be done with this anytime soon. Despite The Old Republic appearing in the presentation, there was no news about any projects involving Revan and the gang. We didn’t even hear anything about the Knights of the Old Republic remake, which is said to be going through development hell right now.
This incredibly brief acknowledgement came when the showcase gave us a look at the canon Star Wars timeline, going over the various eras that future projects will encompass. On the left, we can see The Old Republic, seemingly making some kind of version of KOTOR 1 and 2’s events canon.

As you can expect after so many years of KOTOR’s fate being left in the balance, fans of this era are over the moon. Hell, they don’t even seem to mind that we didn’t get any kind of Old Republic reveal, and we didn’t even see Revan. We’ve really been left starving for KOTOR content, huh?

The closest we’re getting to The Old Republic era will instead come through a new film about the “dawn of the force”. This will be set before KOTOR’s time, however, as the force is already an incredibly established concept by then.

However, it remains to be seen if all of the events of KOTOR, and its successor, the Old Republic MMO, are considered to be part of this canon timeline. It’s possible that Disney will make changes to fit in with its own creative vision, especially since the KOTOR games allow players to make a variety of decisions.
Still, there are already versions of both Revan and the Jedi Exile that are considered canon within KOTOR’s own lore, with further spin-off material expanding on their fates. But the Exile is a far way off from even getting a shoutout by anyone at Disney and Lucasfilm, so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here.
It also remains to be seen if The Old Republic era itself gets anything beyond the scraps of hope we get thrown every few years. Many of us were expecting the new game to signal KOTOR’s return to Star Wars canon, but given how development is going, that seems unlikely.
