Elden Ring Fans Share Their Deepest Fears For The Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring officially has some DLC in development, and now that we’re two months from the initial announcement with no release date in sight, the anticipation is almost palpable. Fans are doing whatever they can to pass the time until release, whether that be making their own boss fights, or cosplaying as a squeaky clean soap sorceress terrorising The Lands Between with bubbles.

They’re also doing much more normal things, such as discussing their hopes and worries for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. It’s the latter we’re focusing on today though, as u/tiagos_brettas has asked the Elden Ring subreddit what their deepest fears are regarding the DLC, a topic that has literally thousands of fellow Tarnished discussing what sorts of horrible monstrosities FromSoftware might be cooking up.

A fan theory regarding the DLC at the moment is that it will heavily focus on Death Blight, a status ailment in the base game that kills you instantly if you let the meter build up too high. As you can imagine, this has the potential to be used in some truly menacing ways, and u/Friendly_Ram brings up an idea for a boss fight that should send a shiver down any Elden Ring player’s spine – a Death Blight Ulcerated Tree Spirit. There’s also u/WolfDaddyup, who is afraid of a potential Death Blight swamp being added in the DLC, what with Miyazaki’s incredible ability to include a poison swamp in any game he’s involved in.

Staying on the theme of horribly powerful beings out to get us, u/H4xolotl brings up the possibility of FromSoftware adding an invader based on Elden Ring legend LetMeSoloHer. This man recently managed to complete a run in which every single enemy in the game was replaced weith his arch-rival Malenia, so he’s definitely not someone any of us would like to come up against should FromSoftware do the unthinkable and make him our enemy.

However, not everyone is afraid of something as tangible as a big nasty enemy. For example, u/TheyCallMeOso is slightly afraid that the DLC will have a “short playtime”, with others sharing the same fear that once they hit the credits, they’ll be dissatisfied. Given how massive the base game is, that’s probably a fear we won’t have to worry about too much, especially given how FromSoftware has a history of releasing chunky bits of DLC in the past, such as Bloodborne: The Old Hunters and The Ringed City from Dark Souls 3. All good things do have to come to an end at some point though, and isn’t that the greatest fear of all.
