Increasing your population is one of the main goals of surviving in Fallout Shelter. Building rooms on each floor has no point if you do not have enough dwellers to fill the empty hallways. Hence, you will need to become a matchmaker so that your dwellers can find love.

Find the most suitable couple in your vault and pair them up to see if things work out. If it does, magic will happen and your pregnant dwellers will give birth to babies. Pair high-level parents and you can have legendary babies running around your vault. There are also other things you need to consider during the baby-making process. How to Make Dwellers Pregnant in Fallout Shelter

Every vault starts with a pre-built Living Room that increases the population cap and allows two dwellers to breed in Fallout Shelter. To make babies, assign (drag) a male and a female dweller to the Living Quarters. You can do this from the start of the game, since your vault will immediately attract new dwellers from the Wasteland.

Couples in the Living Quarters will soon start conversations. They will exchange banter, flirt, dance, and if everything works out, rush into the bedroom with a lot of floating smiley faces to make the female dweller pregnant.

How long it takes a dweller to become pregnant depends on their Charisma (C) SPECIAL stat in Fallout Shelter. The higher the Charisma, the better the compatibility, and the quicker the female dweller will get pregnant.

Baby-Making Rules and Conditions

Fallout Shelter does not support incestuous breeding, so check dweller surnames to confirm they do not share parents or grandparents. If they do, assigning them to the Living Room will show a “hanging out with the family” message. That will be your cue to switch them with dwellers who are not family.

By default, baby boys and girls take their mother’s and father’s surnames respectively. This, however, changes if you are using the same dweller to impregnate multiple dwellers. Consider renaming the baby at birth with a naming convention to help you remember every bloodline. Since each vault supports up to 200 dwellers, it becomes confusing to keep track of everyone when you have over a hundred dwellers running around in the vault.

How to Deliver Babies in Fallout Shelter

Once a dweller becomes pregnant, you must wait 3 hours for her to deliver the baby in Fallout Shelter. She will not give birth unless there is room in the Living Quarters. If you do not make space by removing other dwellers from the Living Quarters, she will die of old age.

Furthermore, babies take another 3 hours to grow up into adults. That amounts to six hours before you get another dweller ready to be sent to the Wasteland in Fallout Shelter.

How to Get Legendary Babies in Fallout Shelter

Babies inherit the highest SPECIAL stats of their parents. For example: if the father and mother have high Charisma and Agility, respectively, the baby has an equal chance of being born with either high Charisma or Agility. Bonus stats from outfits, however, are ignored. You can still use them to increase Charisma to make dwellers more compatible.

Babies also inherit their parents’ levels. So, always mate dwellers with high levels and high SPECIALs to birth babies with the best possible stats in Fallout Shelter.

Both parents need to be level 50 with maxed-out SPECIALs for a chance to birth legendary babies in Fallout Shelter. This, however, is still based on RNG.

There is only a 6 percent chance of getting a legendary baby (40 randomly assigned SPECIALs) with maxed-out parents. You also have a 13 percent chance of getting a rare baby (28 randomly assigned SPECIALs) at the same time.

Either way, baby-making is an expensive affair. You will need to farm a lot of bottle caps in the game to increase your vault population. That covers an endless cycle of increasing SPECIALs, leveling up, and mating until all your vault dwellers are fully maxed out.
