How to quickly kill a Wight in Dragon's Dogma 2

How to quickly kill a Wight in Dragon's Dogma 2

Wights are deadly undead creatures that can decimate your party in Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you don’t know how to deal with them quickly and efficiently.

As you wander the vast world of Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll encounter all sorts of nasty creatures that want to rip you to shreds. Even dozing off in an oxcart isn’t safe. One of the strangest of these powerful enemies is the Wight. It’s a spectral foe that summons skeletons to aid it and can deal a tonne of damage with very little warning. If you don’t know how to kill them quickly, you’ll suffer the consequences.

To kill a Wight in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you first need to take out its skeletons, then focus on dealing damage to it while avoiding its devastating magick attacks. I’ve made this sound so simple, and, at its heart, this is a really easy fight. But you need to know the nuance of this fight if you’re going to have any success because these things can destroy your entire party with no trouble.

The first thing you must do is destroy every skeleton. This isn’t as simple as dealing damage until they’re dead. These guys died a long time ago, and the Wight has brought them back. As such, you’ve got to shatter the skeleton, then locate and smash its skull with an additional attack. Once the skull has been destroyed, the skeleton won’t bother you again.

The Wight I fought around Border Checkpoint Town had maybe eight skeletons to help it out, and getting rid of them allowed my Pawns and I to focus fully on the main foe. This one spawns at night in the same location as a Griffin, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for other dangers when fighting it.

The Wight has two main attacks. The first is a series of blue orbs that will hit you and deal lightning damage. They’re avoidable if you start to run as soon as they spawn because they can’t fire ahead of you. They’ll just land harmlessly behind you. Once they’ve been fired, you can run in and deal damage to the Wight.

The second main attack the Wight will use is an AoE attack that causes a devastating explosion beneath it. The creature will summon a purple circle around it when this attack is about to fire, and you need to make sure you’re outside of that circle if you want to avoid taking damage. After this explosion, the Wight will fly up for a while before floating back down to where you can attack it.

Between these attacks, I found the best way to deal damage to the Wight was to use an aerial slice. The enemy is always floating, which can cause your basic attacks to miss. If you opt for an aerial ability or ranged attacks such as arrows and magick, you should be able to deal a constant stream of damage and kill it fast. I also had a Pawn using magick to buff everyone’s attacks, which played no small part in this fight.

Once the Wight is on its final health bar, it may perform a colossal attack that’s so impressive, scary, and deadly that I have no way to name it. The Wight will summon some energy and then fire it at you. When that energy lands, it’ll explode, creating a massive tornado consisting of darkness, rocks, and fire. It’s an amazing attack to see in the game, but it’s also one of the most terrifying things to encounter if you’re coming to the end of a fight.

It’s this attack that makes Wights so dangerous, and I recommend resting at a camp or an inn before taking one on because they can be so difficult to kill with it in their arsenal. Thankfully, they seem to have some decent loot on them. I got the Craos Tine staff and a Portcrystal from the one I killed. This will give me the power to place a teleportation stone on the map, which is going to be incredibly handy moving forward.

Best party setup for fighting Wights in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The best party setup for fighting a Wight in Dragon’s Dogma 2 must have mostly Pawns with ranged Vocations. This means the Archer and Mage vocations are great because Pawns will be able to deal damage without needing to wait for the Wight to drop down. Similar Vocations, such as the Sorceror, will also work because they also use ranged attacks.

My character is a Warrior, and that made dealing damage to the wight itself a little challenging. With aerial attacks, though, you’ll still be able to hit it. I think it pays to have a party that’s half and half like the following.

  • Archer
  • Thief
  • Mage
  • Warrior

This party has two close-range attackers and two long-range ones. The characters with melee attacks can deal with the skeletons and damage the Wight up close when it lowers itself. Meanwhile, the ranged attackers can deal consistent damage, and the magick user can buff everyone to help increase damage dealt or deal elemental damage themselves.
