Fans knew that Yuji had a tremendous load of potential inside of him, however, this potential was untapped, that is, until now. In JJK chapter 257, fans saw Yuji tap into this potential of his, and utilize not just one but two cursed techniques of the highest level, making him a prospect for becoming the strongest sorcerer at the end of the story.

Yuji’s Awakening

Yuji Itadori Got An Awakening In The Fight Against Sukuna

Yuji Itadori was always going to get a massive power-up in his fight against Sukuna. This shouldn’t have come as a surprise to any fan, given that he is the protagonist of the series, and, generally speaking, he has been very underwhelming in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. Since Yuji’s abilities left a lot to be desired, fans knew that at some point, he would get a major power up and this came in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256, when he finally went up against Sukuna once more, and, in a surprising turn of events, managed to launch a powerful black flash on him.

Normally, Yuji would not be able to hit Sukuna with a black flash. However, Larue helped out tremendously, and this allowed Yuji to make full use of the opening that he had and take the king of curses by surprise. Yuji launched a massive black flash that shook his very soul, and dealt tremendous damage to him. With the sparks of the black flash scattering around the battlefield, the narrator made it clear that after this powerful black flash, Yuji had now awakened.

Fans did not get to see what his awakening truly was in JJK chapter 256, however, as the story continued after the break, this power was finally made clear. It is now evident to the fans that Yuji has awakened what might just be one of the most incredible powers in all of JJK, and it is certainly incredibly exciting.

Yuji’s First Cursed Technique – Blood Manipulation

Yuji Has Access To Blood Manipulation From The Death Paintings

Before discussing Yuji’s true awakening, fans need to know what powers he holds that have been boosted as a result of the change that he recently underwent. Fans know that Yuji gained the ability to utilize Blood Manipulation recently. In JJK chapter 257, it was finally clarified that Yuji gained this power by consuming the death paintings 4-9. He consumed them at some point during the Culling Game Arc, and, as a result, gained great power. This gave Yuji access to this incredible cursed technique and he was trained by both Choso and Noritoshi Kamo. Yuji still has a lot to learn when it comes to blood manipulation. As Choso mentioned himself, Yuji cannot utilize Convergence properly yet, which means that he cannot utilize the vast majority of advanced techniques of blood manipulation.

However, that was before Yuji awakened. Now that he has awakened, all of his attributes have been boosted tremendously, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Yuji actually be able to utilize blood manipulation easily. Although he hasn’t made use of it in JJK chapter 257, he will most likely use it in the upcoming chapters and showcase that awakening has helped him grasp the concept of blood manipulation much better and tap into its true powers. As such, Yuji should now be able to use abilities such as Piercing Blood, Flowing Red Scale, Supernova, and create many other powers on his own. This is clearly an overpowering ability for him, however, it is certainly not the only one that entails his awakening.

Yuji’s true awakening in JJK chapter 257 came in the form of Mizushi or Shrine. Fans know that Sukuna possesses the power of Shrine as well. Basically, Shrine is the cursed technique that allows Sukuna to utilize slashing and slicing attacks.

Both Cleave and Dismantle are attacks of the shrine, and Sukuna has utilized them with great efficiency over the years. In JJK chapter 257, Yuji awakened the power of Shrine, or Mizushi, as well. This makes Yuji one of the strongest individuals in JJK. He used this power on Sukuna and attempted to slice his leg off, however, Sukuna struck back before Yuji could actually do so. Yuji then used this power on a nearby pillar, slicing it cleanly, showcasing that he could, essentially, utilize this ability at will.

Even Sukuna himself did not understand how Yuji gained this power, however, the answer to that question is quite clear. Yuji Is the child of Jin Itadori, the twin brother of Sukuna. Since Yuji is his child, he bears an affinity for this cursed technique. At the same time, Sukuna was also present inside Yuji’s body, and Gojo made it quite clear that Sukuna’s cursed technique would eventually seep into Yuji’s body. In JJK chapter 257, this is what appears to be the case and Yuji has essentially gained access to this incredible power-up.

That said, fans should keep in mind that Yuji’s Dismantle and Cleave differ from those of Sukuna. In his case, scissor-like marks appear around the targets that he wants to cut before actually chopping them. Sukuna believes that this is because of the ability being used by a different person and existing in a different era.At the same time, Yuji is also capable of hitting black flashes, possibly at will. He has landed eight black flashes against Sukuna already, and has broken the record of consecutive black flash hits in JJK chapter 257. All in all, Yuji’s awakening consists of mastering the powers of blood manipulation, accessing the Shrine cursed technique, and potentially even being able to hit black flashes as well, which might be one of the most overpowered awakenings that the fans have seen in the story, possibly ever. Yuji now intends to surpass Sukuna and become the greatest of all time.In fact, the editor, at the end of the chapter, implied that Yuji is already on Sukuna’s level, and it will be interesting to see how this battle proceeds from here onwards. It should be noted that Yuji’s control over Shrine and Blood Manipulation isn’t absolute just yet. He will improve his control over these powers as the fight continues. It shouldn’t be a surprise to the fans to see him manifest a domain expansion, and at the same time, take down Sukuna with great efficiency.
