One dedicated Minecraft fan decided to take their love for the game to the next level, building a fully-functional recreation of one of the game’s furnaces and sharing a video of some of the build process online. Fans of Mojang’s hit title will soon have their chance to see a whole different side of the game’s block-based world when the action-strategy spin-off Minecraft Legends releases on April 18.
Released for PC in 2009 before eventually making its way to consoles, mobile phones, and even streaming boxes like Apple TV, Minecraft is a worldwide phenomenon the likes of which is rarely seen in gaming. By giving players a vast open world to explore and the freedom to create all manner of unique and often unusual builds in Minecraft, Mojang unleashed a powerful creative sandbox that has drawn in gamers of all ages from around the world. While players have managed to build some truly jaw-dropping creations inside the various versions of Minecraft, the game has also served as an inspiration for some wildly impressive real-world constructions.
In an impressive new video posted to r/Minecraft, Redditor wired_workshop shows off their fully functional recreation of one of Minecraft’s furnaces. Beginning the clip with footage of a cozy fire burning inside the blocky furnace, the video goes on to show the impressive recreation being put through its paces. Much like its in-game doppelganger, wired_workshop’s furnace is capable of performing a variety of useful tasks, from smelting metal to cooking a delicious meal. The video also gives a brief look at the huge amount of work that went into fabricating and assembling the impressive replica that looks like it would be right at home in the live-action Minecraft movie.
Redditors responding to the video were blown away by the impressive Minecraft furnace, with one user posting that the next step should be to build a crafting table “and take over the world.” Already thinking ahead, wired_workshop replied that they are already working on plans for a Minecraft crafting table that could double as a workbench. Providing readers with a bit more insight into the build process, wired_workshop responded to one post by stating that the furnace took a year from start to finish while working on other projects. Another response questioned whether the furnace would be hot enough to sear a steak, leading someone to point out that the 1900 degrees Fahrenheit required to melt the copper in the video should be more than adequate for cooking.
This unique creation is a great example of how Minecraft continues to be a source of inspiration for players both within the game and in the real world. No word yet on whether wired_workshop used a real-life Minecraft pickaxe to gather all the cobblestone needed for the furnace, though.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
