New Medieval Strategy Game Is Off to an Incredibly Strong Start on Steam

Manor Lords has started its early access launch to a very warm reception. Manor Lords is a release that comes with years’ worth of anticipation, as the game’s announcement trailer was posted to YouTube on July 4, 2020. The game offered visuals that many gamers found impressive, along with the promise of realistic city building and large scale tactical battles. Appearing large in scope, complex, and demanding in skill, the game found an audience that eagerly anticipated more.

Although some gamers were shocked by how quickly such a large demand of over 3 million wishlists showed up for Manor Lords, there seemed to be a simple answer to its steady popularity. Launching in early access on April 26, Manor Lords has started off incredibly strong. Over the course of its first 24 hours, its player count peaked at 159,701, and has since plateaued at around 90,000. On its first day, Manor Lords surpassed concurrent player counts for Baldur’s Gate 3, GTA 5, and Destiny 2, which is impressive on its own, but some might consider it a bigger feat for an indie game like Manor Lords, which does not necessarily have the same resources that a studio like Rockstar might. Although some gamers consider the release date of Manor Lords ill-timed based on its competition, it has managed to attract plenty of attention.

In addition to the success of Manor Lords on Steam, Microsoft has gotten involved and added Manor Lords to PC Game Pass. A Game Pass launch gives plenty of players already using the platform a chance to see what the hype is about before deciding whether they want to buy the game, which from its launch until May 10, will sit at a reduced price of $29.99 compared to its full price of $39.99.

As evidenced by the success of its launch, there are many gamers who are excited about getting ahold of Manor Lords. Although players on other platforms may be excited to unpack all the unique features Manor Lords offers, they may need to wait. Developer Slavic Magic and publisher Hooded Horse have suggested that the game may remain in early access for about a year, which is subject to change depending on feedback.
