Realm Champions League Apex Legends Tournament Launching
Realm Apex Legends has had a bit of a weird week. They began by shutting down some of their recently launched tournaments, after just a month of running. Rumours swirled about the circumstances behind the Realm shut-down, but they’ve just announced a relaunch that might put some of them to bed. A new Realm Champions League for Apex Legends will be starting up in the old league’s place.

The Realm tournament organizers took to Twitter earlier in the week to announce new details about their upcoming league. This new tournament will replace their past more open efforts with a full-on Champions League.
The tournament will be switching over to a team system, a better choice for Apex’s competitive scene. This will be an Invitational League where competitors are directly invited by organizers. It will carry a prize pool of $120,000 for the full three months it’s running. Matches will be held on week nights, streaming to fans through their channel. Broadcasts won’t be clashing with the ALGS though, so fans and players don’t have to worry about choosing one over the over.

What Happened with Realm?
The old Realm Apex Legends tournament series was quite a bit different. Originally it was a lot more open, with players being able to sign up as long as they met the entry requirements. It was also a SoloQ League, with matchmaking to put players together into teams and a leaderboard for individual players. It was a unique format. The newer version is definitely a better fit for Apex Legends though.
Realm has had a lot of changes, but there are still putting on a tournament. This runs against some of the rumours circulating earlier this week, which said the tournaments were over and blamed factors outside of the tournament’s performance.
Pro Apex Legends games are still frequently the victim of bugs like server lag and problems causing restarts. An alternative League like the Realm Champions League could prove a nice alternative to mainline ALGS.
