Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Beat Del Lago
Resident Evil 4 remake follows Agent Leon S. Kennedy on his quest to find and rescue Ashley Graham, the president’s daughter, from the clutches of a dangerous cult. To find her, Leon must fight his way through countless hoards of infected townsfolk and cultists, but he will also need to battle a few otherworldly creatures along the way.
The Del Lago enemy is arguably one of the toughest bosses in all of RE4 remake, not just because of the power it holds, but also because of where and how it is fought. Players may struggle in defeating Del Lago during their first attempt, but the battle can be won quite easily if players know how to approach it.
Where to Find Del Lago in Resident Evil 4 Remake
During Chapter 3 of Resident Evil 4 remake, Leon will eventually come across two villagers sailing in the Lake. While watching them through his binoculars, he will witness a giant sea monster lunging to the water’s surface before quickly disappearing back to the depths.
In order to fight this beast, Leon needs to locate and obtain the Boat Fuel needed to start the boat docked at the nearby pier. Once it has been found, it can be added to the boat’s engine, and Leon can set sail. Before he can freely explore the Lake, however, Del Lago will attack, thrusting the player into the first real boss battle of Resident Evil 4 remake.
How to Defeat Del Lago in Resident Evil 4 Remake
Unlike most boss fights in Resident Evil 4 remake, the battle against Del Lago comes with a few restrictions. Leon will not be able to use any of his firearms during the fight. As if this wasn’t bad enough, he also won’t be able to use any restorative items to replenish his health. In order to survive this battle, players need to ensure that the boat’s health meter doesn’t reach zero. If it does, Leon will fall into the Lake and Del Lago will eat him.
In order to damage Del Lago, Leon must rely on the harpoons that come with the boat. It is impossible to run out of harpoons during this battle, so players can feel free to throw as many as they like. While being dragged by Del Lago, Leon should unload as many harpoons as he can into the beast’s back, as doing so will deplete a significant portion of its health.
While being dragged by Del Lago, players will also need to steer the boat away from incoming obstacles. Hitting these obstacles will damage the boat and will quickly lead to a game over if the player isn’t careful.
When Del Lago stops dragging Leon’s boat around the Lake, Leon will get an opportunity to throw a harpoon directly into its mouth. Not only will landing a direct hit deal significant damage to the beast, but it will also prevent Del Lago from damaging the boat.
Del Lago will sometimes sink beneath the water during this attack, rendering it invisible. In order to find it again, the player will need to spin the camera around while listening out for its roars until they can spot it emerging. The player will only really have time to throw two harpoons during this attack, so they should make sure they are aiming directly at Del Lago’s mouth before launching one.
Del Lago can also bite onto the boat if the player doesn’t attack while the creature is lunging at Leon. If this happens, the player will need to adhere to the prompt that appears on the screen in order to break free.
When Del Lago receives enough damage, a cutscene will play. Once it ends, Leon will be free to explore the Lake.
