Spider-Man 2 Prequel Comic Hints At Peter Becoming A Teacher

Spider-Man 2 Prequel Comic Hints At Peter Becoming A Teacher

The recently-released Spider-Man 2 prequel comic contains some more hints that Peter is aiming to become a teacher, which lines up with optional dialogue from the first game and Miles Morales.

After what has felt like an eternity waiting for new information about Spider-Man 2 (and staring at the same image over and over again), we’ve finally got a new glimpse into Insomniac’s universe thanks to a prequel comic that just launched as part of Free Comic Book Day. The comic features Miles and Peter going up against The Hood, but it’s the smaller moments that seem to be more important to setting up Spider-Man 2.

One of the biggest examples of this can be seen in the first half of the comic, during a conversation between Peter and MJ. MJ mentions to Peter that her book bombed but that she doesn’t mind because she’s in the reporting business to make a difference, not to make money. MJ then asks Peter how he’s doing for money and mentions that he’s working towards getting his teacher’s certificate, seemingly confirming that Peter’s going to become a teacher in the future.

Whether that’s something we’ll see in Spider-Man 2 or not isn’t clear, as we don’t know how much time will have passed between this prequel comic and the sequel (or even how much time has passed from Miles Morales to this comic), but it’s still interesting that Insomniac is aiming to have Peter become a teacher in this universe. Looks like he’s given up on his dreams of becoming a chef.

Interestingly, this isn’t actually the first time that Peter becoming a teacher has been mentioned in the Insomniac universe. An optional conversation between Miles and Peter in Spider-Man: Miles Morales has Miles suggesting that Peter looks into becoming a teacher, as he’s done a good job at teaching the new Spider-Man the ropes. Peter initially laughs it off but seems to warm up to the idea in the end, which now seems to have been a hint towards Spider-Man 2.

It’s not too surprising considering Peter has previously become a teacher in the comics (Amazing Spider-Man Volume 2, Issue 31 for example), which is widely regarded as one of the better moves for Peter’s character before Marvel neutered his development and aged him down. Let’s just be grateful Insomniac gets to have some freedom with this Peter Parker’s age and experiences.
