The Mario Movie Has Everyone Thirsting Over Luigi

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has a lot of fans thirsting after Luigi, with fancams and tributes to the character being shared across social media over the past few days.

For as long as Luigi has been around, Nintendo has tried to push the narrative that he lives in Mario’s shadow and that he’s the least popular out of the two. We know the truth though – Luigi number one. Nintendo fans wouldn’t have spent decades searching for him in Super Mario 64 if he wasn’t the better of the two brothers, right?

To add even more fuel to that fire of green brother superiority, Luigi’s portrayal in The Super Mario Bros. Movie has some fans acting up and getting all thirsty. One of the most popular examples of this is a tweet from Twitter user broiledcrawfish, which shows Luigi sitting on a bed in the movie with the caption, “why he kinda…”, which is a sentence I’ll let you imagine the ending for.

That tweet sits at nearly 30k likes at the time of writing, which should be a good indication of how people feel about Luigi. The comments section will give you a solid idea if not, with a surprising number of people comparing him to the dad from Inside Out. If you’ve ever seen people talk about hot animated characters, this comparison says it all.

It’s not just Twitter, though. TikTok is full of fancams and posts about Luigi that would get you sent straight to horny jail. Take this post from mrsluigii for example, which just shows several images of our green boy while audio talks about sitting on someone’s face as hard as possible. Honestly, the things I have to look at in the name of journalism. Even worse, one of the comments says, “he def whimpers”, and I just don’t know what to do with that.

If you want even more evidence that everyone wants a bit of the Weej, a recent poll on ResetEra asked users if they found Mario attractive. While the winning vote at 25.8 percent of votes said “Nah he’s ugly”, the second most-voted option reveals that 23.8 percent of voters are “more of a Luigi person”. See, this is the Year of Luigi.

Perhaps I shouldn’t be too surprised considering everyone seems to be shipping Luigi and Bowser but, weirdness of seeing people talk about Luigi in such a down bad way aside, it’s nice to see some respect being put on Luigi’s name. Maybe Nintendo should start paying him a bit more attention.
