The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs – Veterinarian Skill Guide
In The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs, players get to create and adopt household pets for their Sims. While players can’t control pets to care for their needs, they are still responsible for ensuring they are fed, well-rested, loved, and healthy. Pets can get sick for multiple reasons, and sometimes it happens randomly as they age, but the addition of the Veterinarian Skill means Sims can keep their furry friends in tip-top shape.
The Veterinarian Skill can also be used to craft treats and medications for pets; even one makes them immortal if Sims don’t want to part ways. Sims can practice their skill at home or a Vet Clinic, which they can visit or own. Simmers who plan to play with pets will benefit from building up their Veterinarian Skill even if they don’t own a Vet Clinic. So, this guide covers everything about the Veterinarian Skill and its uses in The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs.
How to Build the Veterinarian Skill
There are several ways for Sims to increase their Veterinarian Skill using the vet items in Build/Buy mode. Unlike other skills, no skill books are available, so Sims will have to take the hands-on method. The following items can be used to increase the Veterinarian Skill:
- Dr. Budget-Bandage’s Exam Table
- Dr. Duget-Bandage’s Medicine Craftidink
- Dr. Magi-Heal’s Medicine Craft-o-matic
- Dr. Magi-Healt’s Get Better Table
Sims can use the medicine crafting tables anytime to craft something specific such as treats and medications, or improve their Vet Skills by doing lab work. A cat or dog must be present to use an exam table, but every exam interaction goes toward the skill. While both items are found in Brindleton Bay’s Vet Clinic, Sims can purchase them for their homes.
As the Veterinarian Skill increases, Sims who own Vet Clinics will earn Perk Points that can be spent on employee slots, customer traits, and other beneficial things for the clinic.

Own a Vet Clinic
Owning a Vet Clinic is the fastest way to increase the Veterinarian Skill. It is also a great way to make money if players want to avoid standard or active careers from other Expansion packs. Owning a vet clinic is similar to owning a restaurant with The Sims 4: Dine Out. Players can manage their employees, prices, and uniforms and decorate their clinic however they wish.
Sims can be an active veterinarian or a manager at their clinic. Performing pet exams will gradually increase the skill and keep the customers happy when they receive fast service. For Pet Lover Sims, in general, it is also a great way to meet other pets and interact with cats and dogs whether they own one or not.
Care for Pets
Sometimes going to a vet clinic can take up a large portion of the day, so to save time, Sims can use their Veterinarian Skills at home by purchasing an exam table and crafting station. When pets become Elders or spend a lot of time outside, they become sick more often. Having a high Veterinarian Skill means they can get the treatment and care they need anytime.
Crafting treats also make raising pets easier in The Sims 4. Various treats assist with their hygiene, hunger, and mood. In addition, Sims can make their pets immortal using the Age Up/Down treats since cats and dogs can only die from old Age. They can also use the Ambrosia treat to bring a pet back from the dead if they aren’t quite ready to move on.
