The Sims 4: How To Make Money With Dust Bunnies

The Bust the Dust Sims 4 kit introduced Dust Bunnies to the game. The release of this kit was slightly controversial at first as some fans of the game found it odd that they had to purchase a pack that seems to include little more than dust and vacuums, but there is actually more to it.

What Are Dust Bunnies?

When a house has gotten dirty enough, Dust Bunnies will appear. Dust Bunnies are balls of dust that have come to live in a dirty environment. A house will take a while to become dusty in The Sims 4; the more Sims inhabiting a house, the faster it’ll happen, but it should still take a few in-game days for a house to become dirty.

The dust system must be enabled in the settings for a house to become dusty. Players can verify if it’s activated by accessing Game Options > Pack Settings > Bust the Dust.

Dust Bunnies will appear indoors once a household is dusty – it doesn’t have to get to the point of being dirty because if this happens Filth Fiends will appear.

Oddly enough, Dust Bunnies are a great source of income in The Sims 4, and it shouldn’t take a lot of work. To start off, when a Dust Bunny appears its Happiness Level will be low, so the player will have to increase it by feeding it dust.

Right after it’s been fed the first time, Sims will be able to ask the Dust Bunnies to search for valuables every 40 in-game minutes or so. They can come up with a wide variety of items such as upgrade parts, toys, and collectibles, and they might even just find some lost Simoleons lost around the place.

As the Dust Bunny’s Happiness Level increases from low to neutral and eventually to high or very high, Sims will be able to pet the Dust Bunny and even befriend it. Befriending a Dusty Bunny will make them stick around for longer and increase their usefulness – they’ll find rarer items and higher quantities of Simoleons, and they’ll survive the cleanest environments – which is great as Sims will finally be able to clean up their house in case they have guests over.

Befriended Dust Bunnies can still be vacuumed or stepped on, but that will give the Sim a sad moodlet.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
