Undawn Beta – PUBG Mobile makers’ cross-platform title is looking solid

The creators of the game, Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios are bringing a cross-platform open-world game titled Undawn. The game was initially announced over two years ago and is finally entering a closed beta stage.

Undawn enters closed beta, here’s how to download

The closed beta for Undawn has arrived on both PC and mobile. To sign-up for it, head over to the official website. You will be able to see two options for Google Play and PC. Unfortunately, the beta isn’t available for iOS yet.

If you are an Android user, click on the Google Play option and accept to become a part of the testing program. PC users, on the other hand, can directly click on the PC option to begin downloading the setup.

Lightspeed Studios has promised some rewards for the players who participate in the closed beta. To unlock the rewards, players need to reach Level 30 and complete any in-game server before April 13. On doing so, you will receive the Dawnbringer Epic Title and the Earth Yellow Raven Wings Epic Vehicle when the game releases globally.

What makes Undawn so special is the fact that it has cross-progression and cross-platform between PC and mobile. With the advancement of mobile phones, developers have been able to make titles which can run across both platforms.

Just like any other survival game, you have to gather resources and build a home base in this post-apocalyptic world. You will need to squad up with your allies during the night, though, as waves of enemies will attempt to storm their way into your base.

Cross-platform – the future of gaming?

People have heard of crossplay between consoles and PC but unlocking it with mobile for a real-time action game is a huge feat. However, Undawn isn’t the first title of this scale to do this.

In the past, SuperEvil MegaCorp and Epic Games did it with the MOBA title Vainglory and Fortnite, respectively. While both developers managed to port the game with perfection, the games aren’t really popular on the platform. Fortnite Mobile, is engulfed in a legal battle between Apple/ Google and Epic which has led to its removal from the application stores.

Based on the initial gameplay reactions from Undawn, the game looks balanced and fun to play. It remains to be seen how it’s received when it is released globally.

While Tencent’s Lightspeed is developing the title, Level Infinite, another subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant, will be publishing it. In SEA, Garena will hold the publishing responsibilities for the game.

When will Undawn release globally?

Unfortunately, a release date for Undawn hasn’t been revealed yet. However, the ongoing closed beta is being conducted on a very wide scale and has been received positively. The game looks polished and ready for release.

Fans can expect a global release later this year.
