Unicorn Overlord Sales Top Half a Million, Could Be Vanillaware’s Fastest Selling Game

Unicorn Overlord, the typically gorgeous Vanillaware strategy RPG that released in early March, has now sold over 500,000 copies. The news comes directly from publisher Atlus, via the game’s new accolades trailer (which just so happens to include your favourite PlayStation website).

It’s the kind of result that we’ve come to expect of Vanillaware titles. They’re never going to penetrate the mainstream, but they do seem to be gaining popularity amongst the more hardcore crowd. It’s also worth noting that Unicorn Overlord launched during a particularly busy period, just a week or so after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and just over a week before the likes of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. It’s done well for itself, despite the obvious competition.
