World of Warcraft Teases Huge Plot Points After Dragonflight Patch 10.1

World of Warcraft confirms some big stories coming to Dragonflight soon, including the return of a legend and an evil version of a beloved character.

World of Warcraft all but confirmed some massive plot points coming in the near future of Dragonflight. These huge story beats tease some exciting narrative twists right around the corner–several of which have been popular theories among World of Warcraft fans.

Blizzard recently began a new video developer chat series called WoWCast. In the first episode, associate game director Morgan Day and lead game designer Maria Hamilton spoke about the imminent Embers of Neltharion update and how they helped shape the content found within.

However, at the 41-minute mark near the end, the developers teased some of the things World of Warcraft players could look forward to in the near future. The highly-anticipated story of Nozdormu and Murozond–the doomed Bronze Aspect of Dragonflight–will be coming to bear soon, but with an unexpected twist: Chromie’s Infinite Dragonflight counterpart, Morchie, will appear for the first time and play a major role. The “Timey Wimey Badness” that ensues will also involve Galakrond, the ancient proto-dragon from the Dawn of the Aspects novel.

Iridikron, the leader of the Primal Incarnates and one of the WoW community’s new favorite characters, was also named as a major threat, and his ultimate plan will be revealed sometime soon. Hamilton hinted at a continuation of existing plots involving the Green Dragonflight, but also teased an encrypted storyline for “another dragonflight.” While this could be one of the main five groups, the cagey answer suggests she could be referring to a lesser flight, such as the Netherwing Dragonflight or the Storm Drakes.

Many World of Warcraft fans have theorized what the ending of Dragonflight might look like. A datamined cutscene seemed to indicate Dragonflight Patch 10.2 would involve the Green Dragonflight, and hints that Nozdormu would have to face his dark destiny have been all over the expansion. Players have also speculated Galakrond’s return as a major threat as well. Some popular theories have Iridikron using the Infinite Dragonflight to go back in time and use Galakrond’s power to stop the Aspects from ever being created.

Luckily, World of Warcraft players won’t have to wait long to find out what happens next. Blizzard has committed to an ambitious release schedule for WoW in 2023. Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion, is out mere days after press time, and builds for Patch 10.1.5 are already appearing on the Public Test Realm. It will be only a matter of weeks until players start discovering the first story snippets to share with their peers.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
