What does the green rain do in Stardew Valley

What does the green rain do in Stardew Valley

Green rain is a new weather condition introduced with the 1.6 update of Stardew Valley. If you watch the Weather Report on TV the day before, you’ll see that something strange is coming – this means green rain, and it’s a very useful, albeit slightly disconcerting, weather condition.

If you go to the Tavern on a green rain day, you’ll also encounter a lot of Villagers who have sheltered here in panic. It’s an excellent opportunity to get your daily interactions in, increasing your friendships. On another, slightly ominous note, if you talk to the Wizard on a green rain day, he will tell you he has ‘special matters to attend to’.

Green rain might look bizarre, but don’t worry, it’s not acid or slime falling from the sky. In fact, green rain can be particularly helpful when you’re searching for resources, including Moss and Fiddlehead Fern.

However, it’s worth noting that green rain does not water your crops or fill your Pets’ Water Bowls. The rain only affects Pelican Town, too, so if you’re hoping for strange happenings on Ginger Island, sorry to disappoint.

If you walk outside of your Farmhouse first thing in the morning and see that the world is bathed in green water, my advice would be to ignore all of your other responsibilities and go out in search of the goodies that await you.

You’ll see lots of new trees that weren’t there the day before, and they won’t be there the day after either. Some of the regular trees may be mutated and oversized, but don’t worry — it’s not permanent. Everything goes back to normal once the green rain stops.

Green rain massively increases the amount of moss around the entire Valley, so stock up while this weather event is occurring. Moss can be used in a few different recipes, and you can use your Scythe to gather it rather than your axe, if you choose.

You’ll also be able to find a number of large Fiddlehead Fern plants dotted around the Valley, with each plant providing an average of 6 drops per ‘tree’. Fiddlehead Fern is needed for the Chef’s Bundle and usually only grows during the summer, so this is definitely worth grabbing while it’s about and you also stand a chance of getting a Mossy Seed drop while doing so.
