World of Warcraft is a nearly 20-year-old game in 2024, and players have come to know the original game pretty well thanks to the release of WoW Classic in 2019. But with the release of the Season of Discovery late 2023, the original Azeroth was revamped with new Runes, items, Raids, and more through level-gated, time-gated content releases.

A completely different approach to the game than the No Changes approach to 2019’s WoW Classic, the Season of Discovery is rife with changes. But despite constant updates and releases, it can be difficult to find today’s WoW SoD patch notes – if official patch notes are released at all, that is.

This guide documents the major SoD updates starting with the release of Phase Two, and will be updated continuously as official SoD patch notes and Hotfixes release. Check back regularly to keep track of the WoW SoD patch notes and catch up if you have stepped away from the game for a while.

April 23, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Weekly Maintenance Fixes

General Fixes

• Players who have completed the quest “Warranty Claim” but have misplaced their Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor before handing in the quest “Salvaging the Salvagematic” may now speak with the Lost and Found vendor Rix Xizzix in Booty Bay to recover the misplaced quest item.
• Fixed a Sunken Temple issue where the Atal’ai Defenders encounter would not reset properly.

Class Changes

• Druid
  • The Natural Weapons talents now increases all damage done by druids in Season of Discovery, instead of just physical damage.
  • The Gale Winds rune now reduces the mana cost of Hurricane by 60%.
  • Swiftmend no longer consumes a Rejuvenation or Regrowth effect on the target when used.
• Hunter
  • Rapid Killing now reduces the cooldown of Rapid Fire by 80% (was a reduction of 2 minutes).
  • Chimera Shot weapon damage percent increased to 135% (was 120%).
  • Explosive Shot base damage before attack power increased by 50%.
  • Sniper Training has an additional new effect: while Sniper Training is at 5 stacks, Aimed Shot is instant.
  • Serpent Spread now causes Multi-shot to apply Serpent Sting to its targets for 12 seconds (was 6 seconds).
  • Steady Shot now deals 100% weapon damage (was 75%).
• Paladin
  • Seal of Righteousness damage can now be critical hits.
  • Sacred Shield’s duration is extended to 60 seconds (was 30 seconds).
  • Crusader Strike has now gained an additional effect: Crusader strike now refreshes all judgement effects active on the target to a 30 second remaining duration.
  • Seal of Martyrdom can now “twist” with other seals, including Seal of Command.
• Priest
  • Shadowform now increases all shadow damage done by 25% (was 15%).
• Rogue
  • Saber Slash bleed now stacks up to 5 times.
  • Saber Slash bleed now also increases the impact damage done by Sinister Strike and Saber Slash by 15% per stack for the rogue who applied the bleed.
  • Saber Slash bleed now deals 3% of the rogue’s Attack Power in damage per tick (was 5%).
• Shaman
  • Mental Dexterity now only triggers from dealing damage with Stormstrike and Lava Lash, and it now lasts 30 seconds (was 10 seconds).
  • Burn now increases Flame Shock Damage by 100% and flame shock DoT duration by 6 seconds, and causes Flame Shock to strike up to 5 targets (was 3 targets).

April 16, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Weekly Maintenance Fixes

Incursions & Blood Moon Changes

• There are now Emerald Warden guard NPCs present near Nightmare Incursion questgivers and quartermasters.
• Players will now gain the Honorless Target effect whenever they enter or leave a Nightmare Incursion portal.
• Players should no longer occasionally gain no bonus blood when near Kha’damu and affected by Feast of Blood.

SoD Item & Quest Changes

• The Atal’ai Mojo consumables are now Unique (2), allowing two to be carried and used.
• There is now a 2.60 speed version of the off-hand weapon Serpent’s Striker, available from Zalgo the Explorer on Yojamba Isle in exchange for the 1.50 speed version of the item.
• The drop rate of Nightmare Seeds in Sunken Temple has been increased by roughly 50%.
• Sigil of Living Dreams no longer requires a Nightmare Seed.
• Rainbow Generator should now appear for troll, tauren, night elf, and all other races.
• Grizzwerks Defense Industries has achieved record growth thanks to the efforts of adventurers across Azeroth, and Grizzby is now pleased to offer runes to heroes without requiring quests from them.

Class Updates

• Druid
  • Starsurge no longer consumes Clearcasting procs from Omen of Clarity.
  • Skull Bash rune moved to the Hands slot (was the Leg slot).
  • Lacerate rune moved to the Leg slot (was Hands).
  • Lacerate threat increased substantially.
• Hunter
  • Chimera Shot no longer refreshes Serpent Sting at 1 less damage per tick.
• Mage
  • Impact can now be triggered by the damage from Molten Armor.
  • Deep Freeze will no longer deal damage to players who are temporarily Immune to stuns.
  • Deep Freeze can no longer be overwritten by an Impact stun, unless the new stun would be longer than the remaining duration on Deep Freeze.
• Paladin
  • Light’s Grace rune moved to the Bracer slot (was Helm).
  • The mana return of Seal of Martyrdom has been increased significantly.
  • Eye for an Eye now works on damage-over-time crits.
• Priest
  • Eye of the Void can no longer engage in melee combat.
  • Eye of the Void’s spells now all have a 35 yard range.
  • Surge of Light’s instant cast effect will no longer be consumed if Surge of Light was gained while casting Smite or Flash Heal.
  • Martyrdom now works to prevent pushback on Void Zone casts.
• Rogue
  • Focused attacks now generates 3 additional energy (was 2).
• Shaman
  • The Internal Cooldown for Overcharged has been increased to 3 seconds.
• Warlock
  • Life tap now grants mana return to warlock pets.
  • Unstable Affliction’s damage has been increased by roughly 120%.
  • Warlocks with Metamorphosis active and the Master Demonologist talent will now gain increased threat generation when they summon an Imp or Felguard (was decreased threat generation).
• Warrior
  • Victory Rush heal increased to 30% of the Warrior’s health (was 10%).

April 11, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Hotfix Notes

Darkmoon Card & Misc Updates

• Darkmoon Card: Overgrowth proc chance increased to 10% (was 5%).
• Darkmoon Card: Decay now procs from ranged attacks and abilities.
• Anguish of the Dream’s bonus damage on next ability will no longer be consumed by professions.
• “Jungle Durian” now rewards 20 Jungle Durians (was 10).

Class Updates

• Rogue
  • Cheap Shot’s stun effect can now correctly apply to targets under the effects of Goblin Rocket Helmet’s Reckless Charge.
  • Combat Potency and Deadly Brew can no longer proc from Fiery Weapon procs.
• Shaman
  • Rolling Thunder now correctly restores 2% of the Shaman’s total mana per Lightning Shield charge released.
  • Shamans should now appropriately have access to Rank 4 of Fire Nova (was Fire Nova Totem) when the rune is engraved.
• Warlock
  • Unstable Affliction is now affected by Haunt’s increase.
  • Damage over time effects that crit through the Pandemic rune will now be able to activate Dance of the Wicked.
  • Felguards summoned by Warlocks are now given an appropriate demon name.
• Warrior
  • Gladiator Stance will now appear at the end of your stance bar instead of the beginning and will no longer rearrange the order of your stances for the purpose of stance macros.
• Sunken Temple
  • Fixed an issue that would occasionally cause Dreamscythe and Weaver to evade when their target survived falling into the Pit of Sacrifice.

April 9, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Weekly Maintenance Fixes

Incursion Updates

• The number of creatures needed to complete missions in the Nightmare Incursions have been reduced by about 30%.

SoD Darkmoon Card & Other Item Adjustments

• Fixed an issue causing some bosses to drop no Rare items.
• Darkmoon Card: Decay adjusted to be more appropriate for single target situations.
• Darkmoon Card: Sandstorm adjusted to be more appropriate for multi-target situations.
• Screaming Chain Shoulders can now be learned by Leatherworkers.
• Sigil of Living Dreams now requires a Runed Truesilver Rod to craft (was arcanite rod).

Class Changes

• Paladin
  • Consecration critical hits from the Wrath rune, now trigger Vengeance.
• Priest
  • Prayer of Mending can now trigger Divine Aegis.
• Warlock
  • Lake of Fire will now properly increase the damage of Immolation Aura.
  • Immolation Aura now has a persistent visual.
  • Shadow and Flame is now activated by the Pandemic rune’s critical hits that occur from damage over time effects.

April 8, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Hotfix Notes

General fixes

• Fireguard Destroyers in BRD updated to be level-appropriate for SOD P3
• Druid trainer Loganaar should now remain in place instead of vanishing
• Non-engineering and non-Blacksmithing armaments no longer require a Blacksmith Hammer
• Mixology for Fun and Profit materials adjusted

SoD Unique Item Updates

• Darkmoon Card: Sandstorm no longer triggers with every Instant Cast spell
• Sunken Temple flasks now persist through death
• Tenacity Chain changed to Mail armor type from Leather
• Breadth of the Beast has been made into a Unique item
• Membrane of Dark Neurosis has Spell Hit and Spellpower Proc instead of Spirit and Haste

Class Changes

• Druid
  • Free Wrath from Fury of Stormrage no longer consumes Clearcasting
  • Rumsey Rum no longer triggers Omen of Clarity 100% of the time
• Mage
  • Balefire Bolt now procs and consumes Clearcasting, and correctly benefits from Spellpower Rune. Also works with Ignite properly now.
    • Balefire Bolt also benefits from (and uses) Combustion and Arcane Blast stacks
  • Displacement no longer requires a target
  • Conjure Water Rank 6 creates a stack of 20 Water
  • Molten Armor falls off when the Rune is swapped
• Priest
  • Void Zone no longer resets Wand cast time, locks the Priest out of Shadow spells when Kicked, and will be less visually disruptive
• Rogue
  • Honor among Thieves should work properly, and bugs surrounding its use when an ally or target died from a critical hit have been fixed. Also should no longer require players to be in PvP.
  • Carnage no longer falls off enemies when applying Rupture at Rank 4
• Shaman
  • Tidal Waves ability always applies its increase in Healing Wave, even if the Healing Wave is spell queued
• Warrior
  • Shield Slam should deal 200% increased threat, as intended
  • Devastate deals 150% weapon DPS instead of 100%, as intended
• Warlock
  • Felguard will cast Cleave even if it only has one target
  • Demonic Sacrifice falls off if the Felguard Rune is applied

Sunken Temple Raid Adjustments

• Festering Rotslime should no longer despawn and soft-lock the Raid
• Avatar of Hakkar and Hakkari Bloodkeeper HP pools reduced by 35%a
• Eranikus Changes
  • The raised edges of the boss room can no longer be scaled
  • The overall number of Whelps and Scalebane spawned in the second and last phases reduced
  • Summoning period in the last phase reduced to 6 seconds

Nightmare Incursion Updates

• Unstable Wisp in Hinterlands incursions fixed to be less punishing
• Quest objects for all Incursion quests now have multiple spawn points
• XP reduced for all Incursion quests, but Reputation increased for Level 50 Incursion quests (Hinterlands, Feralas)

April 5, 2024 – WoW SoD P3 Hotfix Notes

Miscellaneous SoD Updates

• LW Wild Leather Vest and Way of the Weaponsmith fixes rolled out
• Rugged Traveler NPC will despawn if more than two players enter the quest area
• Level 50 players who are exalted with Arathi Basin can now complete Tabard-related quests normally reserved for Level 60

Sunken Temple Raid Adjustments

• Significant reductions to trash mob and boss HP pools. Instance must be reset to take advantage of these new HP pools.
• Dreamsscythe and Weaver should now spawn correctly. Instance must be reset to force the patch to take effect.

Nightmare Incursion Updates

• Quartermasters can now repair your gear
• All Gold rewards for Incursion quests reduced by about 30%
• Quest objects can now be opened instantly
• Drakes’ Corrosive Acid Breath deals more damage when helping the Incursion dragons
• Satyr’s Plagued Shot damage reduced and cast time increased, and now has a minimum range

April 4, 2024 – PHASE THREE LAUNCH – WoW SoD Patch Notes

Phase Three of Season of Discovery General Changes

• Level cap raised from 40 to 50
• 100% XP buff from Levels 1 to 39
• 50% XP buff from Levels 40 to 49
• New Raid: Sunken Temple (Temple of Atal’Hakkar)
• New PvE Event: Nightmare Incursions
• Six new Runes for every class in the Head and Bracers slots
• New items and gear and other revamped features
• Dual Spec can be correctly activated while in the preparation area of a Battleground

Class Changes

• Druid
  • Efflorescence will not work correctly when Swiftmend targets a pet or guardian belonging to a party member
• Shaman
  • Healing Rain can no longer be cast while targeting a NPC

Nightmare Incursion Updates

• Vengeful Ancient and Doomkin now categorized as basic Elites instead of Rare Elites
• Larsera, Florius, Ylanthrius, and Tyrannikus credit is now awarded across faction

Blood Moon Updates

• Zanzil the Outcast changed to despawn Ward of Zanzil after 30 seconds, summon less zombie skeletons, and recast this spell less often
• Ward of Zanza does not have any immunity anymore, and Zombies now despawn
• Crystal Shore Chained Spirit Healer is now located further north than previously

• Mildly Irradiated Rejuvenation Potion and Enchanted Sigil: Innovation now increase Ranged AP
• Tooltips for new abilities & stats in SoD have been condensed, and the description for Hyperconductive Goldwrap has been clarified

  • Survival Instincts should no longer gain HP when shifting while its effect is active
• Hunter
  • Chimera Shot damage increased to 120% Weapon Damage, and Chimera Shot Serpent Sting damage is increased to 48% of normal Serpent Sting damage
  • Carve damage increased to 65% Weapon Damage, and Explosive Shot base damage (before AP) increased by 15%

  • Frostfire Bolt damage increased by 50%, and its Bonus Spell Damage increase now matches Fireball’s 16%

February 27, 2024 – WoW SoD P2 Hotfix Notes

High-Yield Radiation Bomb Changes (& Gnomeregan Boss Armor Change)

• Slow can now be removed with various snare removal abilities
• DoT damage is now Nature damage with a Poison effect
• Initial explosive damage works on enemies that are immune to slow, and now it always goes off when it hits
• Gnomeregan boss armor reduced slightly (about 10%)

Class Changes

• Druid
  • Lifebloom mana cost cut by 50%, and Nourish mana cost cut by 27%
  • Living Seed heals for 50% Critical Heal on the planted seed, from 30%. Blooms from non-periodic healing now, too.
  • Moonkin Form reduces Sunfire and Moonfire mana cost by 50%, and increases DoT damage of both abilities by 50%.
  • Moonkin can cast non-healing Restoration spells (Remove Curse, Abolish Poison, Revive, etc) without breaking form.
  • Fury of Stormrage fixed to be an Instant heal, and usable in all shapeshift forms
  • Lacerate critical strikes can now trigger the Primal Fury effect
  • While Fury of Stormrage is active, Nourish becomes an instant cast, and no longer breaks Moonkin Form
• Hunter
  • 30% damage increase for Raptor Strike when wielding two of the same weapons removed from Dual Wield Specialization rune
• Mage
  • Chronostatic Preservation no longer checks for Line of Sight or range on targets on the first cast
• Paladin
  • Crusader Strike deals Holy damage instead of Physical Damage now, and ignores armor.
  • Seal of Martyrdom no longer triggers the Art of War effect, which also can’t be triggered by other weapon procs like Frost Oil
• Rogue
  • Redirect cooldown reduced to 10 seconds, and is on its own unique cooldown instead of the GCD
  • Main Gauche now grants 3 Combo Points and costs a reduced 15 Energy
  • Just A Flesh Wound now grants the Rogue 30% additional threat than before
• Shaman
  • Two-Handed Mastery also grants 10% AP and spell hit chance when striking a target with a 2H weapon
  • Shamanistic Rage fixed to grant 5% Max Mana per second
  • Spirit of the Alpha gains the Loyal Beta effect, which increases the Shaman’s AP when cast on someone other than themselves
  • Earth Shield mana cost reduced by 67% and has an increased total 9 charges. Base heal amount correctly scales with level (about a 50% increase at Level 40)
  • Power Surge tooltip revised to more clearly define what the skill does.
  • Ancestral Guidance cooldown reduced to 1 minute
• Warrior
  • Rallying Cry now benefits an entire Raid instead of just a Party

  • Dual-Wield Specialization now gives 50% bonus Offhand damage
  • Lava Lash deals 50% more damage if Flametongue Weapon is imbued on your Offhand

  • Conjure Water (Rank 5) now creates a full stack of 10 Mage waters instead of 2

Blood Moon Event

• Warlocks and Hunters now automatically summon their last active pet after coming back to life
• Fixed issues causing Priests to resurrect earlier than intended while in Spirit of Redemption form
• Fixes Blood Coin turn-in bugs when affected by Mind Control or Subjugate Demon
• Blood for the Blood Loa stacks should no longer exceed the intended max of 255
• The Drained of Blood debuff now makes players immune to movement-impairing effects
• The Chosen of the Blood Loa (giant roaming boss) is now visible while dead

  • Fixed an issue causing Starsurge to gain Crit Chance while the Lunar version is active. Now Starsurge only gains Crit Chance while Solar is active (as intended)

  • Chimera Shot – Scorpid is now correctly resisted by Weapon Chain and other Disarm resistances

  • Fixed high Seal of Righteousness spell ranks (4+) do less damage than Rank 3

  • Dispersion and Pain Suppression no longer prevent Priests from turning into a Spirit of Redemption
  • Mind Spike stacks are now only built and consumed by individual Priests. Multiple Priests no longer consume other Priests’ stacks.

Blood Moon Event

• Fixed issues that caused players to lose Blood stacks when leaving a party, and scoreboards are more responsive during the event
• All event participants receive a 30% HP boost
• Resurrecting via Chained Spirits during the event now refunds 100% Mana as well as HP
• More Zandalarian Emissaries have been added to areas that connect to STV (Ratchet, Tirisfal, Duskwood)

• Druid
  • Berserk now discounts the energy cost for Rune-based abilities correctly
  • Starsurge visual should correctly only hit the target
  • Eclipse fixed to reduce spell pushback correctly
  • Savage Roar animation removed
• Paladin
  • Guardian of the Light fixed to prevent its effect from being cancelled
• Priest
  • Void Plague power reduced
  • Renew fixed to prevent Priests from casting twice on the same target
• Shaman
  • Power Surge gained during a Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt, or Chain Lightning is no longer consumed by casting those spells
• Warlock
  • Fixed Fear interaction with Metamorphosis that prevented it from changing into Menace
  • Corrected mana refund from Dance of the Wicked

Raid Tuning – Gnomeregan

  • Players can’t get out of range or use LoS to prevent Static Arc from being cast

Blood Moon event

• Players with the Drained of Blood buff are now immune and invisible to others for a duration upon reviving
• Drained of Blood buff reduced to 20 seconds, and now has a visual indicator
• A symbol now highlights the Zandalari Emissary, where players can opt out of the event while in STV

Class Changes

• Druid
  • Starsurge damage reduced by 35%, and spell damage bonus now matches other Instant spells
  • Starsurge now causes the next Starfire cast to deal 66% more damage
  • Fixed an issue that caused Enhanced Restoration to prevent buffs to Nourish from Rejuvenation and Regrowth
• Paladin
  • Sheathe of Light proc fixed to trigger correctly from melee attacks
• Shaman
  • Ravaging Tempest fixed to prevent it from losing its aura when specific bosses are killed

World Buff Fixes

• Battle for Ashenvale world buff fixed to work through Level 39
• Spark of Inspiration world buff fixed to increase Healing

Quest fixes

• New Squall-breakers Potion from Rau Cliffrunner in Freewind Post for the quest “Calm Before The Storm”
• Battle for Ashenvale weekly quests Clear The Forest and Repelling Invaders now grant full XP and rep
• Reduced item requirements for the Shaman Rune quests Power of da Wind/Earth/Water
