Skyrim Mod Basically Turns the Game Into The Walking Dead

Those who are keen to combine fantasy role-playing with fighting hordes of zombies may be interested to know that there’s a new mod for Skyrim that turns the game into something that would fit right into an episode of The Walking Dead. After more than 11 years, The Elder Scrolls 5 still has lots to offer, whether it’s secrets that have eluded players for over a decade or the modding community continuing to put out custom content.

It’s also interesting to see that zombie games are still all the rage, from the remakes of classic Resident Evil games to a new entry in the Dead Island franchise. Of course, Skyrim is no horror game, though it does have its fair share of undead creatures. Bethesda’s 2011 epic RPG doesn’t put much emphasis on zombies, which seems odd seeing as previous installments in the TES franchise have featured them more prominently. Luckily, there is a way for fans to get their kicks when it comes to battling these shambling corpses.

Over on Nexus Mods, user Wyrmspleen has created “The Walking Dead Zombie Apocalypse,” a mod for Skyrim that takes cues from the post-apocalyptic TV show of the same name. Working off the Creation Club project “Plague of the Dead,” which adds a zombie quest to the game, players can now see what it’s like to take on hordes of the undead across this cold slice of Tamriel. Wyrmspleen says that their modification is “lore friendly” and “100% immersive.” Zombies can attack in groups, even taking on guards and soldiers, and they are also said to be a good source of Mort Flesh for anyone who’s playing an alchemist character.

Over a long period of time, the fan base has unleashed plenty of amazing mods for Skyrim, some of which have turned the game into a different beast entirely, while others have sought to improve the experience. It’s a testament to the modding community that TES5 is still going strong, offering up new ways to play or keeping the aging RPG looking fresh with better graphics and bug fixes.

While The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development, there’s no way of telling when it will actually release. As such, no one can be certain whether the next entry in Bethesda’s iconic series will enjoy as much longevity as Skyrim. For now, the 11-year-old title is still getting a lot of love and attention, which is just one of the reasons why it remains in the AAA gaming limelight.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
